The end of a semester...

Hey you awesome students,

I am typing this from home this morning.  I just wanted to take the time to thank you for your hard work.  Now let's be honest, some did work harder than others...and that my friends is life.  I hope today as you do the cell phone PowerPoint that you will remember these tips when you start to drive in high school.  You all have such bright futures...limitless options...so make the most of each day.

A few highlights of the semester for me were:

1. Laura Beth's videos of taking apart a computer.
2. Second period enjoying taking apart the computer that Laura Beth provided and then the one that Hailey provided.
3. I enjoyed each of the All About Me presentations!
4. 5th Period I enjoyed eating lunch with you.
5. I appreciated Skylar, Ben, and sometimes Gab saying, "Good Morning Mrs. Hughes!"
6. I appreciated Blake saying, "Good Morning Mrs. Hughes!"
7. I really appreciated the girls of 7th period...boy did we get an education!
8.  4th period, I even enjoyed your sports discussions...even though I would have to tell you to stop.  You are some really good thinkers and debaters.
9. For those of you who made an "A" on every assignment...I noticed your ability...please know how proud I am of you.
10. 6th Period was a bright spot in everyday.  You followed directions so very well with very few instructions from me.
11.  I appreciate all of you who said, "Hope you have a good day, Mrs. Hughes." Your kind words and well wishes were always appreciated.  Some of you did it everyday.  Thank you, Thank you, Thank you.  I hope you are blessed for your kindness to  me.
12. 2nd period...made the start of every single day WONDERFUL!  CHEESEBURGERS!!!!
13. Lauryn...I enjoyed working on the project with you.  Keep up the good work!
14.  Lana...you are going to do something awesome with computers...when you are rich and famous...remember me! If you are secret agent somewhere in the world...send me a cryptic note...I'll know who it is from!
15.  I loved the "Hour of Code" and I am so proud of those of you who worked on it at home.  Keep up the good work.
16. 3rd period...my biggest class...you did good...you listened...most of you...and you had to put up with me fussing at one student everyday...thanks for your perseverance!!! Now that student knows who they are...you know I want you to do your best and that is why I fussed.

Well, I could go on and on...I really don't like good bye's.  I just wanted you each to know that you each are gifted in a special way.  Learn as much as you can and be good to people around you.

I wish you a blessed holiday season and for me...it is a MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!

Take care and be good today!
See you tomorrow!

Love,
Mrs. Hughes

Monday

Students:
I will not be at school on Monday. My uncle's funeral is at 11:00.  Please be on your best behavior. If you didn't turn in your newsletter on Friday you need to do that then do today's assignment. There are newsletter handouts in the back of the room by the pencil sharpener if you need the handout.

Your assignment:

Open Microsoft Word.
Click No Spacing
Change your Font Size to 12
Change the Font to Courier New
Find the Icon on the Home Ribbon for Line Spacing...it has two blue arrows. One pointing up & one down.
Change line spacing to 2.0
Follow the directions on the handout for creating a heading and typing the report.

TURN IN TO MOODLE WHEN DONE.

Then you may play Cool Math Games.

Please remember your manners.

Thanks,
Mrs. Hughes

Cyber Saftey

We are starting our first project.  Your topic is Cyber Safety.  We talked briefly about this the first week of school. We discuss what advice you would give to someone about being safe on the Internet.  You will create a PowerPoint on this topic.

You have a handout on the computer to assist you with the project.  In addition, under Resources there are several links where you can gather information and include in the Project.  Remember to cite your sources.  In other words, either on the slide you give the website or at the end of you presentation you cite your source.  We must practice correct digital citizenship.

The project is due on Friday.  It must be uploaded to Moodle.  We will discuss on Wednesday how to upload an assignment to Moodle.

Today we will review the basics of PowerPoint.  If you attended school here last year, you should be familiar with how to create a Presentation. I will give you my expectation of how a PowerPoint should be created.

Requirments:
  • 6 to 8 slides
  • One background design
  • No red, green or blue lines
  • Keep information Short & Sweet...to the point...no paragraphs
  • Use bulleted lists to state the information
  • Add animation to words
  • Add clip art that relates to the topic of the slide

Crash

This summer you were supposed to read the book Crash. We are going to do some discussing through the blog about the book. Today's post is just to get us used to typing in a blog format.

You will respond in a comment by answering the following questions:
  • Do you enjoy playing a sport? How do you feel about winning and losing when you play?
  • What does it mean to be a hero? Who are some of your heroes?
Respond by answering one or both of the questions. Do not use texting language. Type out your sentences. Proofread what you have typed. At the end of what you typed answering your question, add your initials and what class period you are in. For example, I would put mh 2nd.

To publish the comment you click anonymous. Then click publish.

BCS National Championship Game

Well, we couldn't NOT talk about the game RIGHT? We are from Alabama. So tell me your thoughts on the game.

I love football. My dad was a high school and JR high school coach for 34 years. I've been to a lot of ballgames!!! Football and baseball are my thing!!!

I think it could be a close game. The quarterback for Notre Dame is good...really good. He works quickly. So the defense is going to have to come at him fast. I think if Alabama would run the ball to get the 1st downs...then we can win this game...like the 2nd half of the the Georgia game.

So what are your thoughts...
You Auburn fans don't be HATERS...if you can't say anything nice...just don't say anything at all.

Do we have any Notre Dame fans? My granddaddy was from Indiana and he was a die hard Notre Dame fan even when they played Alabama. My Granddaddy was friends with Paul "Bear" Bryant. I even have a telegram that Bryant sent my Granddaddy when he got High School Football coach of the year!!! How cool is that!!!

So let's hear what you have to say!!!
Click on comments.
Type in the text box.
At the end of your comment, type your initials and what class...example:  mh 2nd.
